“I am a Ph.D., not an MD. I am 78 and my wife is 72. We are totally dependent on SCAN, a Medicare advantage not for profit program. Please, please, please do not throw Medicare Advantage not for profits in with whatever you do with the commercial insurance companies. SCAN practices managed care and is possibly unique in their achievements. Take a look at them! And act responsibly... our autumn years are depending on you and your failure to follow the will of the people could have consequences that you might not enjoy.”
“As a recipient of managed care for the past 37 years, and as the frustrated daughter trying to coordinate care for my two senior Medicare parents, I am strongly in favor of the coordinated care provided by Accountable Care Organizations. Eliminating programs such as Medicare Advantage would be a huge loss for senior Americans.”
“I am currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, without this coverage I would not be able to get the care that I need, due to the out of pocket expenses under the standard Medicare plan. The Advantage plans offer a lot more coverage for less money. I realize that the government subsidizes these insurance companies for this service, but if the government would come up with the same coverage that the Advantage plans offer to those covered under our standard Medicare plan, maybe it would be more cost efficient. I believe that under our standard Medicare plan admission to the hospital is around $1200 under the Advantage plan that I'm currently enrolled in, it would cost me $50 per day for the first 5 days after that it wouldn't cost me anything. I can better afford $250 than the $1200, under our current Medicare plan. For most seniors and those like me on disability this would create a hardship on many of us if these Advantage plans were to be taken away. It would take more out of our pockets, more than what we have.”
“I have been with a Medicare Advantage plan for the past nine years and cannot bestow enough praise about the high quality, caring and low cost medical service I have received from my primary and specialist physicians. Major reduction or elimination of these important Medicare Advantage benefits would cause a significant reduction in my quality of life.”
“Please do not dismantle our Medicare Advantage program. This would be devastating to the majority of seniors. Don't let us down. We are very happy with our health insurance and don't want it to change.”
“I am 92 and am able to live alone with the help of Medicare Advantage. It would cost the Government more if I had to go into a nursing home which would happen without Medicare Advantage. I live in a senior community and most of us need the assistance of Medicare Advantage. The current money saving assistance which we receive MUST NOT BE CUT OFF! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!”
“My husband and I are very satisfied with the Medicare Advantage plan we have. Our costs are lower and our healthcare is much better than traditional Medicare. President Obama said "If your have a health plan you are satisfied with, you can keep it." I believed him, but it seems he was not being exactly truthful. Actually Medicare Advantage is an example of healthcare that works for doctors and patients. Ask President Obama to keep his promise.”
“Having worked for Secure Horizons as a Registered Nurse case manager, I know what services over and above Medicare benefits that are offered. The extra benefits keep us (seniors) healthier and more productive.
The low-cost, high quality care I get through a system of doctors who are interested in keeping me healthy makes a significant difference in the quality of my life. I have access to preventive screenings and check-ups from a physician who knows my complete medical history and can track my care through a sophisticated electronic medical record system. My prescriptions, dental, vision and many other necessary benefits are covered as well. My co-pays are affordable and, if I ever need to go to the hospital, I know I will receive the same exceptional low-cost care.
Thank you for your consideration and your commitment to addressing this important issue.”
“If Advantage Plans are done away with that means my parents can not afford their prescriptions or doctor visits. And they are both on a lot of medications that they need!! With out the help, they would have to choose between medical care, FOOD or ELECTRICITY! They could simply NOT AFFORD IT and either die from lack of medical care or starvation!”
“Without my Aetna Medicare Advantage I would not be able to afford to see a doctor because of Medicare's 20% O-O-P deductibles contrasted with my Medicare Advantage $25.00 co-pay. My Advantage program also gives me preventive care - free health club programs, free mammograms, and free colonoscopy exams for example. And my monthly premium is ZERO! My 2 day emergency stay at a hospital for double pneumonia 3 years ago would have wiped me out financially with only Medicare - $1,000, as opposed to ZERO co-pay. My recent visit to the ENT Specialist cost me $25.00. Without my Advantage program my Medicare cost would have been $172.00, which I cannot afford, and would not have gone to the doctor. You all say publicly that there is no need for the Advantage programs, and Medicare covers exactly what they do. This is false and misleading. You say "if you like the plan you have, you can keep it." that is false, as you want to eliminate my Medicare Advantage health program. If you can find the billions of dollars savings in Medicare, then put that money back into Medicare, rather than funding a national health program on the backs of us seniors.”
“My husband and I have been very happy with Secure Horizons Medicare Advantage Plan. Please do not dismantle something that works and, I believe, is cost effective.”
“I have been insured through Unicare, a Medicare Advantage Plan, for at least five years and have been completely satisfied with the cost and service received. I have never abused my visits to doctors when seeking medical assistance, and I would hate to see this type of (independent) plan reduced or eliminated.”
“I am very pleased with the quality of care I receive through Humana and do not want to see cuts in the subsidies that allow these companies to provide prescription drugs and healthcare at a reasonable cost. Please DO NOT ALLOW the government to step in and dismantle a program that works so well. I am very mush opposed to ANY kind of socialized medicine. I am a supporter of less NOT more governmental control.”
“My husband and I live primarily on our social security benefits. I have verbally expressed my appreciation for our wonderful Medicare Advantage plan to my husband many times. I am grateful that with our limited finances we are still able to get excellent health care services.”
“Please do not take away my "Medicare Advantage" Plan. I am a "low income” senior (under $22,000.00 income). So I do not qualify for any financial aid. My current plan is with "Kaiser Senior Advantage". And, I am very satisfied with this plan, my Physician, and my co-pays are affordable.”
“Medicare Advantage is great. I have wonderful caring doctors who try to keep me healthy. Humana also provides us seniors with an exercise program called Silver Sneakers which keeps us balanced and flexible. Humana has been an important part of my life. Keep Medicare Advantage for seniors.”
“I am distraught at the concept that you would cut Medicare Advantage as a means to provide care to millions who either don't want it or are not entitled to it. I am 78 years old and in good health. Just as I am nearing an age where I depend on my health insurance coverage, and certainly cannot afford the out of pocket expenses of Medicare I am faced with your proposal to cut coverage for millions of seniors. this is unconscionable. You are not telling the entire story unless you publicly announce to all seniors for the proposed cuts to Medicare Advantage. I join those who demand honest disclosure.”
“Medicare Advantage provides a large segment of the senior population with health care they could otherwise not afford. Eliminating Medicare Advantage would eliminate access to many health care services for these patients.”
“The Medicare Advantage plan does work. Seniors that I know that don't have Medicare Advantage do not get as much care as the ones who do, and they have to end up paying a lot more for their medical care.”
“Please, I do not want cuts to Medicare Advantage. I get vision care, hearing care, and dental care as well as all medical care through my Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage plan. I do not want my premiums to Kaiser to rise. I do not want my co-payments to rise. I do not want covered benefits to be cut. I've always voted for the Democrats, but if Medicare Advantage gets cut, I'll be voting for Republicans at the polls in 2010 and beyond. I worked long and hard to qualify for Medicare Advantage. I live on a fixed income now. I do not want parts of my medical plan to be taken away from me.”

In 2007, Medicare Advantage saved seniors nearly $90 per month or $1000 per year in out of pocket costs. An estimated savings of approximately $7 billion annually. Additionally, compared to traditional Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans can reduce out-of-pocket costs by up to $4,000 annually for patients with the highest healthcare needs.
If Medicare reforms dismantle incentives for coordinated care, seniors will experience significant increases in out of pocket costs - at a time when many seniors have seen their retirement account’s decline by over 40 percent in value — and decreased quality of healthcare.
