Coordinated Care has proven to be the most effective way for physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to provide quality care to their patients

“Coordinated Care has proven to be the most effective way for physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to provide quality care to their patients. I am against solutions that require massive federal governmental involvement, and coordinated care is a market-based solution.”

~ Josh, San Diego CA

Shame on everyone who will agree to cut this program

“Dismantling the Senior Advantage Medicare program is a slap in the face to a generation of Americans who have lived through and served in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam and the two wars in Iraq. Our generation has shown consistent support of our country and a work ethic that is now often sorely missing. At a time in our lives where many of us now need the support of our country, our government is suggesting that our medical care, which we, by the way, have paid into all our working years should be re-configured and reduced, even though the Senior Advantage program has a proven record as a sound economical system.
Shame on everyone who will agree to cut this program.”

~ Minna, Altadena CA

Surely you wouldn't eliminate a plan for seniors that saves Social Security Money and allows seniors better care?

“I use Kelsey Seybold Clinic in Houston, Texas. I signed up for the Advantage plan because it provided me superior health care. The cost is reduced because I agree to have all my health care needs provided for by Kelsey-Seybold. I've used this clinic for 40 years. Surely you wouldn't eliminate a plan for seniors that saves Social Security Money and allows seniors better care?
Honestly, if this happens and I need to find an inferior clinic with inferior care for my heart then this very will might mean the difference between life and death for me.”

~ Fred, Houston TX

I am deeply concerned by the changes proposed

“As an RN and a "baby boomer" with aging parents, I am deeply concerned by the changes proposed under the Obama Administration as they apply to Medicare. Decreases in the amount of Social Security payments to seniors, coupled with increased Medicare costs, will make healthcare costs virtually impossible for the average senior. Shame on the government for the proposed treatment, or lack thereof, of our seniors.”

~ Susan, Henderson NV

Please do not take from Peter (that is us) to give to Paul (the uninsured)

“The bottom line is that if you cut the subsidy for Medicare Advantage you are going to raise the cost for the 10 million Medicare subscribers that have signed up for and use the Advantage Plan. Either the cost will go up for us individual Advantage Plan subscribers because the insurance providers will pass on the eliminated subsidy cut to us or they will eliminate the plan. One way or the other, if you cut the subsidy you will either raise our cost or reduce our coverage. Please do not take from Peter (that is us) to give to Paul (the uninsured). That is not fair. We have all worked over 40 years and now when we need it you are taking it away.”

~ Mark, Lakebay WA

I encourage you to take a careful look at the success that we have had to date

“I myself work for a managed care organization and have noticed, first-hand, the positive impact that we have on the lives of our members. Without organizations like ours, chaos would surely ensue, both financial and health-related. I encourage you to take a careful look at the success that we have had to date, in terms of coordinating care for these members that would otherwise have extreme difficulty in doing so themselves, particularly the senior population.”

~ Erika, Garden Grove CA

We just can't afford these changes

“I am due to be a Medicare recipient soon, and was appalled to read of the proposed changes in the current Medicare program. Given today's economic climate and the soon-to-be large Medicare population, we just can't afford these changes- now or ever.”

~ Bonnie, La Mirada CA

Don't sell us out

“Medicare Advantage results in better care for seniors, and, it emphasizes preventative care. Destroying Medicare Advantage is a Seniors Sellout and a travesty, because it is good managed care and most of the 11 million people enrolled in it are lower income seniors like me who really need this program. Don't sell us out.”

~ Sue, Camano Island WA

Please leave these plans out your reform.

“Medicare Advantage plans help low income seniors who do not qualify for public assistance and yet can't afford to pay for high cost supplements. Medicare Advantage plans help these seniors by providing more coverage that Medicare for a low monthly premium. Without these plans, we would have a sicker elderly population and more stress on our already "taxed" health care system. Please leave these plans out your reform.”

~ Rachel, Lincoln NE

Please do not take away the Medicare Advantage plans

“I have Humana Advantage and I can tell you that I could not afford just to get a yearly checkup without it. I recently had my checkup which included a Dr. visit, mammograms, the first showed something, blood work and a bone density test for $5.00. If I had not had Humana Advantage I would have had to pay 20% of this and that I could not afford. Therefore I probably would not have had my yearly check up. Please do not take away the Medicare Advantage plans.”

~ Marilyn, Gretna LA

Please preserve Medicare Advantage

“Please preserve Medicare Advantage. I have seen personally through my mother how it helped prolong her life by 14 years. Without it, she would not have been able to afford the care she needed to give her those extra 14 years. Maybe an extra 14 years with your mother isn't a big deal, but to me it was. It's been a year since we lost her and I value even more those extra 14 years. And my father just had to have emergency surgery. Without Medicare Advantage, he would have lost his house to cover the medical costs. Please value our seniors and keep this program. My husband will be going on Medicare Advantage next March and without it, we won't be able to get him the medical care he may need. And I'm not too many years behind him. Please HELP us!”

~ Marilyn, Norwalk CT

I am a Lymphoma patient having also survived breast cancer

“I belong to Kaiser Senior Advantage and I am a Lymphoma patient having also survived breast cancer. I think Kaiser should be a model for non profit Health Care. They already have electronic medical records and we have the ability to make out appointments online and view our test results. We also can email our doctors when we have questions about our care and we receive answers from doctors by email. I am very happy with my care with Kaiser Senior Advantage and do not want to see anything they offer diminished. Please cite them as a good model health care provider.”

~ Bette, Napa CA

Please don't take away any more services

“I am a member of Medicare advantage and so is my husband. We would be bankrupt if not for the excellent care we have received from Greater Newport Physicians Medicare advantage. Even now some co-pays for doctors and medicine amount to too much for two people living on one teachers retirement check. My husband’s blood cancer is in remission now but he also had a severe stroke and I am his only caretaker. Please don't take away any more services because we couldn’t handle any more.”

~ Jeanine, Costa Mesa CA

I pray not to see the demise of Medicare Advantage

“This December I celebrate twenty-five years of practicing primary care in the same office. I am hopeful that I will be able to continue to provide a Medical Home for my patients for many more years to come. I rejoice in the possibility of universal coverage and pray not to see the demise of Medicare Advantage. I am consistently able to give the MA patients all of the care I decide upon. With the other Seniors I am often thwarted by the patient due to the costs they will incur. I have read some of the pending legislation regarding ACO's and see the feasibility of our successful experience becoming nationwide.”

~ Veronica, Santa Ana CA

Don't cancel Medicare Advantage programs

“Don't cancel Medicare Advantage programs. These insurance programs do exactly what you want. Programs that keep cost down with managed care instead of straight Fee for Service care. If you cancel these programs you will be taking 8 1/2 million senior citizens away from their insurance and you have said many times "everybody can keep their insurance if they like it" We love ours, as they really take care of us. Keep your word and keep Medicare Advantage for senior citizens.”

~ Larry, Battle Ground WA

LEAVE MY PLAN ALONE

“I have a Medicare Advantage plan, and I, along with everyone else I know with an Advantage plan, loves it. I am right at the poverty level, cannot afford Part D premiums, my Adv. plan is free. If Obama gets rid of Advantage plans, what will happen to me? I think we need a national vote on this issue. Also, what does the president consider "affordable"...let us see a sliding scale, from a single person earning say $16,000 a year, up to a wealthy family with lots of kids? Affordable means different things to different people. LEAVE MY PLAN ALONE. Thank you.”

~ Beverly, Sarasota FL

It is imperative that you pass legislation that will keep my interests and benefits intact

“As an older American, totally dependent on Social Security and also on a Medicare Advantage program, it is imperative that you pass legislation that will keep my interests and benefits intact. I had a private insurance before Medicare Advantage, that being Medicare and Blue Shield, but the premium for the Blue Shield was almost $200 per month and rising faster than I can get the mail!!

There are several issues I have with my own Medicare Advantage drug program, that being that some of the most basic of all meds, for example Armour thyroid (as compared with Synthroid which needs frequent lab testing), the statin drugs, in my case simvastatin, a generic drug for control of cholesterol, and lisinopril, another generic for a blood pressure med. None of these three are in the "formulary" of SCAN insurance, a part of the Desert Oasis group, as I understand it. It leads me to think that Medicare would rather pay for a stroke or heart attack rather than these three cheap generic drugs.

Thanks for your attention.”

~ Pat, Cathedral City CA

Please allow us to retain this Plan

“Both my wife and I have been insured with Secure Horizons, a Medicare Advantage program, now endorsed by AARP, for about 15 years and have been completely satisfied with the excellent care we've received along with a reasonable cost basis consistent with senior retirees living on fixed incomes. Please allow us to retain this Plan.”

~ John, Palm Desert CA

I think this idea of cutting back on Medicare Advantage is a way of cheating seniors

“I do not want money taken from Medicare Advantage plans and used to pay for other people's health plans. I get coordinated medical care, including vision, dental, hearing, and prescriptions from my Medicare Advantage plan. I get deductions for eyeglasses and hearing aids from the same plan. I do not want to lose any of the coverage I have. I paid into the Social Security and Medicare system for years. Medicare is not a free service for me. I'm still paying the government for parts B and D. I think this idea of cutting back on Medicare Advantage is a way of cheating seniors.”

~ Stephen, Union City CA

My mother's quality of life improved

“My mother has a chronic condition that was only able to be diagnosed through physicians who contracted via Medicare Advantage. When she was with straight Medicare, no one oversaw her care or was able to find the cause of her condition. Only via the coordination of care offered through medical groups who contract with Medicare Advantage, has my mother's quality of life improved.”

~ Christopher, San Diego CA

Coordinated Care Facts

In 2007, Medicare Advantage saved seniors nearly $90 per month or $1000 per year in out of pocket costs. An estimated savings of approximately $7 billion annually. Additionally, compared to traditional Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans can reduce out-of-pocket costs by up to $4,000 annually for patients with the highest healthcare needs.

  • Comprehensive Care: Patients receive integrated treatment plans, and expert case management and disease prevention strategies for the chronically ill.
  • Cost-Effective Care: Integrated medical groups are able to support investments in advanced healthcare information technology, tracking patient follow-through on treatment plans and patient outcomes, and helping to uncover health problems before they become catastrophic.
  • Accessible Care: Efficiencies within the coordinated care delivery model mean better healthcare for more seniors, including:
    • lower out-of-pocket costs
    • increased health services such as dental care, vision care and preventive care
    • reduced hospitalizations
    • increased prescription coverage
    • higher overall satisfaction rates
    • greater value for the premium dollar than any other healthcare delivery system

What’s At Risk

If Medicare reforms dismantle incentives for coordinated care, seniors will experience significant increases in out of pocket costs - at a time when many seniors have seen their retirement account’s decline by over 40 percent in value — and decreased quality of healthcare.
